Examples
Functions that operate on other functions, either by taking them as arguments or by returning them, are called higher-order functions. They allow us to abstract over actions as well as values. There are several types, here are some examples.
Functions that create new functions
function greaterThan(n) {
return m => m > n;
}
let greaterThan10 = greaterThan(10);
console.log(greaterThan10(11));
Functions that change other functions
function noisy(f) {
return (...args) => {
console.log("calling with", args);
let result = f(...args);
console.log("called with", args, ", returned", result);
return result;
};
}
noisy(Math.min)(3, 2, 1);
Functions that provide new types of flow control
function unless(test, then) {
if (!test) then();
}
